My book Presence: The Invisible Portrait features 50 portraits of celebrities hiding within my frame, including one of master photographer Duane Michals (the third image, shot in 2007).

Michals currently has a show up at the DC Moore Gallery featuring 30 of his early sixties cityscapes, Empty New York, which has an eerily similar feel to my series. Despite his shots being truly empty they do seem to feel occupied in some way. I’m showing two from the exhibition here, one of which is a fine progenitor to my Michael Stipe Presence shot. I’m looking forward to seeing his show in person, it’s up until May 31st, 2014.
