Return to Y2K
Today is the 25th anniversary of my epic session with Internet maverick Jaime Levy.
Sometimes, everything aligns on a shoot—this was one of those moments. While preparation and attitude play a role, these images show it takes much more for truly exceptional results.
Looking back at these images, I sense that Jaime wanted to go somewhere wild, and I was happy to take that ride with her. It was a true collaboration. That fact that each setup produced something remarkable shows that it wasn’t just my ideas, or my having a good day, Levy's energy and creativity was bringing so much to the pictures.
Jaime was a cyberpunk icon and Internet innovator, shaping alt-culture media before the web took off. By the late ’90s, she was a wunderkind in the industry. It felt like she was navigating a transitional moment, and I was happy to be there to capture it.
Today, she’s a UX strategist and author, but this shoot remains a vibrant document of a moment.
Jaime Levy, for Shift Magazine. Shot January 18, 19, 2000 in Chelsea, Manhattan.
