UNEASY Spice Girls

It was right at the end our session and there wasn’t much time and I was trying to get something for me. My girlfriend at the time believed that the Spice Girls reflected the 12 to 14 year-old girl mentality. She described them as the girls huddled around talking about boys, but not actually being with them. I came to think of this an the perfect image. Even the song Wanna Be reflects that, “If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends”.

I wanted them maybe giggling or whispering to each other, grouped in the corner, not looking at the camera, leaving the rest of the frame empty. I was asking them to be in a more interpretive photograph but they’re so used to being ON. So in each frame one or the other would be making a stupid face or posing sexy for the camera. They prefer to boldly and directly connect with their audience, they don’t really understand quiet.
