Heidelberg Press, Sort Of
This past spring I was invited to Heidelberg, Germany to visit the Kehrer Verlag offices and to be on press for Presence. Here are my five tips for finishing your photo book.

Presence Is Present
I’m pleased to say that my first book Presence:The Invisible Portrait is out and available now.

The G Question
Last week JK Reps, my Canadian agent, emailed me a quick questionnaire, all centered on the letter “g”. Is it telling? You be the judge.

Hear BUCK Live!
Earlier this year Joshua Trinidad, a young Jazz musician, contacted me asking if he could use my photographs as inspiration for some new compositions. I re-read the email three times to make sure that I was understanding this correctly.

Fantasy Football, Indeed
There was the question as to whether running back Arian Foster would pose with a unicorn but in the end he showed up and brought just the right mix of amusement and annoyance.

Picasso & Martin
I came across this amusing blog about my PIcasso/Doisneau homage with Steve Martin by Scott McDermott…

Carl Sagan Beating
My list of ideas was not long, but it was varied. I suggested having Seth MacFarlane trying to get a to-scale model of Uranus into his anus, but my favorite idea was having Seth beating up Carl Sagan.

Get Creative
We photographed Leslie Berland of American Express. Her title is SVP, Digital Partnerships & Development, as she heads up their new and very relevant social media division.

See The Sherman Show
Cindy Sherman is a fascinating artist on so many levels, with a long and complex body of work.

More Lastminute.com
It’s said that the best way to experience a place is through its people, so doing this extended stay shoot with a full British crew was great for me as a tourist.

London Calling!
On a Thursday I received confirmation of a three-week ad shoot in England for Lastminute.com and the following Tuesday I was in London with a full UK crew and a shot list of 17 separate executions.

50th Anniversary!
Fifty years of marriage is impressive in so many ways, but their example of love and patience and goodwill is what stands out for me.

Golden Gate Party 1987
I was visiting that San Francisco during that week in May 1987 when the Golden Gate Bridge celebration took place. I didn’t get far as we tried to join the walkers on the bridge, but I took plenty of photographs.

Taking The Camera for “A Day”
Their directives were to take your camera along for the day and try to think outside the box. As I don’t generally carry my camera around, or specialize in candid photographs, I was definitely outside of my comfort zone.

Moo Yorker
This curious New Yorker story is about the controversy over raw milk and its gray-market status. It has generated a lot of discussion, and now the photo dept has posted a short interview with me on the subject.

5 Favorite Photo Books
Digging through the books on my shelf I’ve compiled my five favorites. I’m not actually a big photo book collector but I’ve managed to get across what I love about these books with this round-up.

Men Want Vargas Girls
Is there a fatal flaw in shooting young women in the style of Alberto Vargas when the central theme of the text is that men really do care about more than looks?

It’s Greg Miller Time!
Greg Miller has shot a number of series with his 8×10 camera but my favorite are his Ash Wednesday portraits, titled “Unto Dust.” I interviewed him about the project, via email.

Bush 41 & Lürzer’s 200
The latest edition of Lürzer’s Archive 200 Best Ad Photographers features three of my photographs, including this portrait of President George H. W. and Mrs. Bush.

Euphemist Mailer Part 5: Take A Photographer Hunting
Our last stop with Oliver North was a sportsman’s convention, primarily selling firearms and knives. In the back corner was a fully functional shooting range set up by the National Rifle Association.
